Neil Billington Band with Dave Murphy
Thursday, 9 November 2017 @ 8:30 pm - 11:30 pm
The Capital Blues Inc 3 day extravaganza kicks off at Hotel Bristol on 9 Nov with our finest NZ export, harmonica maestro Neil Billington (vintage Chicago and West Coast electric blues) with Dave Murphy (Red Dog Saloon Band) and his finger-style, blues picking guitar.
These dapper gents will show you a thing or two about the blues from old-time pre-war, through the great Chicago blues harp masters, to the ballads of the American song-book and jazz favourites from Charlie Parker and Miles Davis.
On the eve of his 4th tour of Japan one of New Zealand’s
premier harmonica players, Neil Billington, will be bringing
a night of authentic Chicago-style blues to the Capital
Blues Club, with special guest, blues legend Dave Murphy. On
his last Japan tour Neil was invited onstage to join the
headline act, Lousiana slide-guitar supremo Sonny Landreth.
“To play with a musician of that calibre was something
else”, Neil said, “but it also made me realise there are
some great players back home. That’s why it’s such a treat
to have Dave Murphy on the bandstand. He’s got to be one of
our ‘unsung heroes’!” Joining Neil and Dave will be a
stellar line-up of local musicians; Deane Hunter on guitar,
Paul Mouncey on bass, and Andrew Richardson on drums.
