DESCRIPTION:And another new act for Capital Blues. \n  \nThere is a big difference between playing IN a band and playing AS a band\, and that is something that the House Rockers Blues Band make abundantly clear. They bring a modern blues rock sound with a splash of retro. Besides some classic blues\, they also have some original material. \n  \nThe band was formed as a ‘project’ group to satisfy the creative drive of the three members\, Tony Faulkner\, Jason Waitokia\, & Gary Goodwin\, but it grew to local live performances. Now they are playing around the region. \n  \nThe three members have a long history of playing the blues. \n  \nGary Goodwin on drums draws influences from Ian Paice\, Lee Kerslake\, and Levon Helm. \n  \nJason Waitokia\, the guitarist\, is a Wellingtonian and played in local bands in the 1990s. \n  \nTony Faulkner\, bass\, played with Bullfrog Rata and Midge Marsden\, so clearly has musical chops. \n  \nTheir live shows are full of energy and enthusiasm. DESCRIPTION:Cancelled due to ill health.\n  \nLed by 9-year-old (yes\, 9 years old!) drumming phenom TomTom Woodson\, TomTom and the Groove-Daddies play a sing-out-loud style of music that includes hits from the Beatles\, CCR\, the Killers\, the Rolling Stones and more. \n  \nFrom an early age\, TomTom showed an aptitude for music such that around the age of 10 months\, his father bought him a set of drumsticks and made him a small drum kit out of milk formula cans. TomTom immediately began playing along to his father’s guitar playing and before he was 2 years old\, TomTom performed his first gig in public. \n  \nHis father contacted his professional musician friends and in 2022\, The Groove-Daddies were formed. The band features Jay Hay on bass guitar and TomTom’s father Beau Redding on guitar and lead vocals. \n  \nIn 2026 they performed at the Festival of Lights in New Plymouth and at the Picton Maritime Festival. \nTickets are $20 GA or $10 for Capital Blues Inc members.

Muddy Waters\, Howlin’ Wolf\, Sonny Boy Wllliamson\, Willie Dixon\, Chuck Berry\, Buddy Guy… you get the picture. Chess Records is THE foundation of modern blues and rock. \n  \nBlues standards like Mojo Working\, How Many More Years\, Spoonful\, Hoochie Coochie Man\, Little Red Rooster\, and loads more\, all came from Chess Records artists. \n  \nThe massive bands of the ‘60s and ‘70s all started in their parents’ garages or at small bars playing music from these classic acts. The Stones\, Clapton\, Fleetwood Mac\, Hendrix\, Zeppelin\, Jethro Tull. They all began their careers playing these tunes. \n  \nYet we rarely hear many of those tunes played\, so we are putting that right with a specifically curated band to perform these foundational songs of the music we all love. \n  \nTyson Smith on guitar and vocals\, Paul Mouncey on bass\, and Rick Cranston on drums.
