SUMMARY:BB and The Bullets
DESCRIPTION:From the first bar\, I said\, “I like that.” I turned to my buddy\, and he said\, “Wow. This is good.” This was the first time we had had BB and The Bullets playing for us. This great playing continued throughout the two sets with really inventive remakes of some blues classics plus some original numbers too. \nA few examples: \n\nOne Bourbon\, One Scotch but not like George Thorogood or John Lee Hooker\nThe classic Freddy King song\, Down Down Down\, with a much heavier beat.\nFurther On Up The Road wasn’t a rehash of the Eric Clapton version but sounded more like Johnny Winter.\nCold Shot wasn’t another Stevie Ray sound-alike\, but more Jeff Beck.\n\nAnd so it went on. This is a well-rehearsed band on top form\, playing some cool arrangements. \nIn fact\, after their first appearance for us\, we rebooked them the same night; they were that good. \nBB and The Bullets is Brian Baker on guitar and vocals joined by two Whanganui musicians\, bass player Stu Duncan bass and vocals\, and Brad MacMillan drums and vocals. \nThe band has quickly made an impact on the NZ blues scene\, and now they are making big waves overseas. \nThey have just been offered worldwide distribution of their debut album which will include their own material. The release date for that will be 12 September for NZ\, UK\, France\, Germany\, Austria\, Switzerland\, U.S.A\, Canada and Australia all in the formats of CD and vinyl. \nThe band is back for a third appearance\, if you haven’t caught them yet\, make sure to join us this week.

DESCRIPTION:Northern Soulsters Jamie and the Numbers will be releasing their new smash Single – 7 Days Too Long at Capital Blues Club hosted by Jack Hackett’s. Bring your dancing shoes\, it’s gonna be funky. \n  \nI’m really looking forward to this show. Jamie has one heck of a voice. \n  \nThe album is tremendous. Can you imagine a soul version of The Seeker by The Who? It’s incredible. The band will be worth seeing for that tune alone. \n  \nThey have even been discovered by the BBC on their Funk and Soul Show! \n  \nThis is one show you do not want to miss.

SUMMARY:BB and the Bullets
DESCRIPTION:From the first bar\, I said\, “I like that.” I turned to my buddy\, and he said\, “Wow. This is good.” \n  \nBB and the Bullets had just played their first chords at Capital Blues\, and they were off. \n  \nFor the next two hours\, they treated us to some classic blues tunes\, but not the normal arrangements you know. They brought their own treatments to many well-known tunes. \n  \nAnd they are tremendous players too. \n  \nBrian Baker\, after some years wowing Australia\, is joined by two local Whanganui musicians\, bass player Johnny Keating (foundation member of the Whanganui Musicians Club)\, and drummer Brad MacMillan. \n  \nA few examples of the tunes: \n\nOne Bourbon\, One Scotch but not like George Thorogood or John Lee Hooker\nThe classic Freddy King song\, Down Down Down\, with a heavy beat.\nFurther On Up The Road wasn’t a rehash of the Eric Clapton tune but sounded more like Johnny Winter.\nCold Shot wasn’t another Stevie Ray sound-alike\, but more Jeff Beck.\n\n  \nAnd so it goes. Fabulous tunes re-imagined in their own style. \n  \nThis is a tight\, well-rehearsed band with rocking bass\, hard-driving John Bonham-style drums\, and excellent guitar on top. \n  \nCome and see what you missed.

SUMMARY:Purple Haze
DESCRIPTION:After their first gig for Capital Blues\, it was only a short matter of time before we rebooked them\, and since then this will be their fourth gig for us. They are so good. \nThis is a new blues band but one stacked with familiar faces\, and outstanding talent. \nA quick look at the musicians in the band will tell you that you can expect some top-class playing. Some might even say virtuoso. \nThe band is:-\nVocals – Eugene Wolfin\nGuitar – Matthew Fitzpatrick\nDrums – Jacob Randall\nBass – Blain Fitzpatrick \nThey will be playing some classic blues-rock tunes in their own way. Think Cream\, early Zeppelin\, and Hendrix. This is going to be a fantastic evening of outstanding music and musicians. Don’t miss it.
