SUMMARY:Oscar Lavën’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Sax
DESCRIPTION:Oscar needs no introduction for regulars to the Wellington music scene\, nor for Capital Blues as this band plays each month for us. \n  \nOscar can be heard frequently playing around town\, in different styles\, all superbly performed.  This time\, Oscar is bringing back his raunchy rock ‘n’ roll sax with a few nods to the likes of Sam Butera\, King Curtis\, and Earl Bostic. \n  \nJoining them are the majestic Aleister Campbell (guitar)\, bodacious Patrick Bleakley (double bass)\, iron-clad Darren Mathiassen (drums)\, and diamond-plated Damian Forlong (trombone). \n  \nThis is always a popular gig. Loads of people dancing ‘n’ grooving. \n  \nCome and see why.

The standard of music from the July gigs was exceptional for such young players. \nAt Capital Blues\, we have a long and deep association with the NZSM Big Bands going back many years. There is the cherished link with Rodger Fox\, but it’s more than that. 80% of the musicians that play in Capital Blues were in the Big Bands (albeit under various institution’s names) at some stage. Our President and soundman\, Damian Forlong\, and Oscar Lavën are only two examples. \n  \nMany of these players will be the future of live music in Wellington. Come along and support them.

SUMMARY:The Nick Granville Blues Band
DESCRIPTION:The Nick Granville Blues Band features some of the busiest and finest musicians playing in New Zealand today. They are coming together again for an extravaganza of Chicago blues. \n  \nNeil Billington\, described as ‘the Hendrix of the harmonica’\, is probably the best blues harmonica player in the country. His performances are always electrifying\, showing what can be accomplished on a harmonica. \n  \nNick Granville has played guitar around the world including London’s O2 Arena\, and The Monterey Jazz Festival. A former guitar tutor at the New Zealand School of Music\, he has also recorded albums with some leading jazz bands and musicians too. Among the artists Nick has played with are Dave Matthews\, Dave Weckl\, Chris de Burgh\, the Rodger Fox Big Band\, and many more. \n  \nCompleting the band for us tonight are two outstanding musicians: Darren Mathiassen (drums) (Shapeshifter\, Kora\, and many more\, and Elliot Fuimaono (bass) (Aotearoa Allstars\, Red Dog Saloon Band\, and many others). \n  \nExpect some explosive playing.  This is a gig not to be missed.
