SUMMARY:Red Dog Saloon Band with Special Guest\, Pip Payne
DESCRIPTION:This will be a special evening with two of our founders sharing the stage; Dougal Speir and Pip Payne. \nThe Red Dog Saloon Band is one of our regular acts. All four members are hugely experienced blues players\, who continue to play really good blues. They’ve got their own arrangements of some classics\, and some not-so-classic blues tunes. \nDougal Speir on guitar\, Dave Murphy on vocals and guitar\, Roger Watkins (drums)\, and Elliot Fuimaono (bass). \nPip Payne is a tremendous slide guitar player using a resonator guitar\, a classic old blues guitar popular in Louisiana\, and the Mississippi Delta. It was used by players like Son House and Bukka White (B B King’s cousin). \nPip has some great arrangements of modern tunes\, like some Stones and Little Feat songs\, using the sound of the Delta Blues. This is what the Stones could have sounded like when jamming the blues. \nThis will be a fantastic evening of blues. \nCome and join us.

SUMMARY:Red Dog Saloon Band with Special Guest Al Norman
DESCRIPTION:Since we have the Red Dogs every month\, it could be easy to put off coming to see them because they will be on next month. I’ve been guilty of that\, but I urge you not to. They are very good at what they do. \n  \nAt the last two sessions\, I’ve also really listened\, rather than just being there. They play some very clever versions of old and newer blues tunes. Just one of the tunes that stood out was Cocaine Took My Honey Bee. It’s a really good version. Come and check them out.

SUMMARY:Free Falling – A Celebration of Tom Petty
DESCRIPTION:Free Falling is a sincere\, and authentic recreation of the great Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers who sold 80 million albums. There are so many iconic songs by Tom Petty\, that every is going to be singing along with the band. From the first hits in 1977\, Breakdown and American Girl\, to Refugee and Here Comes My Girl from the Damn The Torpedoes album. \n  \nThe members of the band have loads of experience playing in New Zealand and Australia. They have played their own music and also worked in other tribute bands. They have even supported U2 in Wellington. \n  \nGreg White has been playing guitar since he was 12. With his band “The Actors” he supported U2 for their “Under a Blood Red Sky” tour show in the Wellington show buildings in 1984. In Free Falling\, Greg brings “Tom Petty” back to life with his characteristic vocal\, and guitar playing. \n  \nGreg Bates\, after studying at The Wellington Conservatorium of Music in 1997\, has played gigs all over New Zealand and was a full-time musician for two years. His drum style and consistency is renowned and is the anchor for the rhythm section in this tight 4-piece. \n  \nGary Taylor\, (Steely DNA\, Wayne Mason\, and many more) brings a very broad skill set to this band covering several member’s roles. He enjoys playing his part as the “odd-jobs boy” in singing back-up and playing a mix of electric guitar and keys. \n  \nMark Gittings started playing bass guitar in the mid-70s with a few local Wellington pub bands. After the ‘90s playing in Australia\, he returned to Wellington to front the house band at Candy O’s club. \nMark’s unique bass style compliments Greg Bates’ drumming to bring the famous Heartbreakers rhythm section to life. \n  \nMake sure your voice is in good order.

SUMMARY:Jamie and the Numbers
DESCRIPTION:I’ve been hanging out for this band to play having heard their album last year which is fantastic. They were booked twice\, but things got in the way\, so now\, finally\, at last. \n  \nJamie and the Numbers. \n  \nThey are a soul-funk band with some fabulous songs of their own\, and really clever arrangements of rock songs too like The Seeker by The Who (yes\, a soul version of a Who tune). \n  \nThey’ve been getting airplay all around the country\, and even on the BBC. This is a band definitely not to be missed.
