SUMMARY:Dr Thompson
DESCRIPTION:Dr Thompson is making a welcome return after their debut spot in February. They brought another fresh insight into some new and classic songs. If you didn’t see them last time\, don’t miss out this month. \n  \nTheir promo says\, “Festering away in the hills of Wellington\, like a slow mould\, a band called Dr Thompson has been working on a bunch of songs. Dr Thompson brings a brand of ballsy\, bluesy rock\, with a hint of psychedelia and a touch of prog. A fun night out for all the family.” \n  \nI’m not sure about festering away\, but they are well worth seeing.

SUMMARY:Pip Payne and the Playboys
DESCRIPTION:A big welcome back for Pip Payne and the band. \n  \nPip is always popular at Capital Blues with his down-home\, slide resonator guitar work. He creates a truly authentic sound coupled with some great arrangements of classic blues and rock songs.  He is how The Stones would have sounded if they had stayed in the blues. \n  \nHe is joined by long-time collaborator\, Wayne Mason on piano. Wayne is always in demand and has played at Capital Blues in loads of line-ups\, as well as other venues throughout the country. \n  \nCompleting the band is the solid rhythm of Roger Watkins on drums and the mighty Miklin Halsted on bass. \n

SUMMARY:Lady Sings the Blues
DESCRIPTION:Capital Blues is thrilled to present Lady Sings the Blues\, four singers\, Erna Ferry – Carol Bean – Lauren Armstrong – Julie Lamb\, with varied styles and fun in mind. They are backed by the stellar Richard Te One (drums)\, Elliot Fuimaono\, (bass)\, Nick Granville (guitar)\, and Michael Crawford (keys). \n  \nThe irrepressible\, Erna Ferry. Most recently much of Erna’s time has been taken up performing with Rodger Fox and his bands so we are fortunate to have her performing for us at this gig. \nThe press calls Erna vivacious and sparkling\, but she is also warm\, engaging\, and the ultimate professional. She makes it fun for the band and audience alike. \n  \nCarol Bean is amongst our finest women of rock…sassy\, seductive\, vibrant\, earthy. She learned guitar from Ry Cooder which shows\, as she gets lots of invitations to join bands – a tribute to her brilliance. She tells the best stories and injects positivity into every show. Audiences and musicians get that vibe… immediately and obviously. \n  \nLauren Armstrong is engaging. She combines the worlds of jazz and burlesque in a style reminiscent of Nat King Cole and Billie Holliday. She also has impeccable style\, with a smiling\, sunshine personality that flows out to her audience.  Lauren is a fabulous vocalist and performer. \n  \nJulie Lamb has been performing to audiences throughout the country for a good while. Even still\, her enthusiasm for music is clear to anyone who knows her\, and this shines through her performance on the stage. Come and hear her as this music is where she is “in her happy place”. \nhttps://www.capitalblues.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/326439800_6040039749379472_7806752283156871936_n.mp4

SUMMARY:The Uptakes
DESCRIPTION:Sgt. Pepper and his Lonely-Hearts Club Band brought happiness through its music\, even causing troops in World Wars I and II to stop fighting. In August 1958\, Sgt. Pepper died of a heart attack in the middle of a performance. He left the band’s magical musical instruments to the town; so long as they remain in Wellington\, its people will live happily ever after. \n  \nSgt. Pepper left his musical legacy to his handsome and good-hearted grandson\, Louis Thompson-Munn. Louis formed a new Lonely Hearts Club Band called The Uptakes with his three best friends: brothers Nick\, Steve\, and Chris. Louis and the three brothers picked up Sgt. Pepper’s magical musical instruments and played the sweetest soul and funk music to ever grace the ears of humans\, and with it they ensured happiness and good vibes remained in Wellington forever. \nLouis Thompson-Munn – keys & vocals \nChris Armour – guitar \nSteve Moodie – big guitar \nNick George – drums \n
