SUMMARY:The Wellington City Shake-Em-On-Downers
DESCRIPTION:22nd The Wellington City Shake-Em-On-Downers – 12pm – $20\, $10 Capital Blues Inc members \nThe Wellington City Shake-Em-On-Downers are\, quite bafflingly\, New Zealand’s most popular swing septet\, with a cult following of thrilled audiences and startled wildlife from Waiheke to Milford Sound and a variety of desolate spaces in between. Clean your bathroom because we suggest you brew up some bathtub gin and get togged to the bricks! \n  \nThe Shake-Ems possess arcade knowledge of iconoclastic interpretations of vintage hot jazz classics that take you back to scintillating nights at the speakeasy. As well as standards from the New Orleans and swing songbook\, they also perform raging new compositions inspired by the era. Described as ‘hot Dadaist swing’ with ‘refreshingly surreal larrikin behaviour’\, The Wellington City Shake-Em-On-Downers never fail to serve up a spicy melange of musical treats!

SUMMARY:Oscar LaDell
DESCRIPTION:Oscar is not to be missed. His voice is full of soul and grit\, taking you back to Chicago and the great blues singers of the ‘50s and ‘60s\, yet he’s only 23. \n  \nHe will be performing some of his own songs\, plus blues classics from that period. His versions of songs by artists like BB King\, Guitar Slim\, Muddy Waters\, and Otis Rush aren’t simply covers. They are faithful renditions and interpretations and will please any blues fan. \n  \nHe moved to Australia late last year and is back for just a few shows. Get to see him while you can because he might not be back here for a long while. You won’t regret seeing him\, but you will regret it if you miss out seeing him. \n  \nThe band will be Steve Moodie on bass\, Mike Crawford on organ and Richard Te One on drums.
