On drums Roger Watkins and Elliot Fuimaono on bass. \nDave Murphy plays Finger Picking Blues in the style of Mississippi John Hurt\, Robert Johnson and a whole host of other old blues guys.  Dougal Speir on the other hand is more adept at ripping off lead riffs unheard of since the death of the likes of Roy Buchanan\, Rory Gallagher or Jimi Hendrix! It will be a diverse and entertaining show with moments of deep blues\, astounding musicality\, soulful songs and lots of good humour. The FMBs love the crowd and entertain people of all ages. Clare has worked for many years in the music industry both in her homeland New Zealand\, and in London. While in London for five years from 2005\, Clare formed Ultralounge. A jazz based ensemble which featured the original Pink Floyd guitarist Bob (Rado) Klose. While in London Clare tutored singing and stage presentation at ‘The Rock Academy’. This was an academy set up for youth at risk in South London where young musicians could come out of their bedrooms and hone their craft with professional musicians and their peers. \nJoe Callwood. Electric and acoustic guitar and backing vocals. Joe is a vastly talented and versatile guitarist/arranger who also works with much respected band ‘Little Bushmen’. SUMMARY:Tin Pan Alley Reunion\, with opening by Shayn Wills
DESCRIPTION:Formed around 1991\, the definitive line up for the Wellington band ‘Tin Pan Alley’ was Blair Allen (guitar)\, Ron Kahu (bass) and Anje Glindemann (then Craig\, on drums). \nBack in the day\, this lean three-piece band travelled the country from the East Coast to the Chatham Islands playing their own tight and punchy versions of blues\, old and new to enthusiastic and supportive crowds of festival\, pub and club goers. They had energy and style with Blair Allen enthralling even the purist of aficionado in the crowd by wringing out everything he could from his Fender Stratocaster and breathing new life into songs by blues greats like Elmore James\, Albert King\, Stevie Ray\, Jimi and more. The band played their last gigs together around 1997\, a highlight\, being one of the acts at the first Blues Bash for the relatively new Capital Blues Club in Wellington that year. \nMore than 20 years on\, the planets have aligned and Tin Pan Alley is putting together a show to celebrate all that was good about this band. Blair has been working hard at resurrecting some of the favorites and a few new tunes too\, Ron will come down from Taranaki to play bass and Anje will join them on drums. At some point in the show\, they will also ask a couple of special guests to join them on stage\, Neil Billington with his virtuoso harp style (no stranger to jamming with Tin Pan Alley) will step up in his inimitable style\, also Tim Boyd (a long time friend and fellow musician) will add fabulous Hammond organ to the mix and there might be few extra surprises thrown in for good measure. All in all it should be a rollicking good time and a trip down memory lane for all\, to boot! \nBut not before Shayn Wills who will open the gig …\n \nAlbert King\, Junior Wells\, Robert Cray\, John Hammond Jnr\, Canned Heat\, Duke Robilard. These names practically form the basis of the Blues as we know it today.  To have played support gigs for one of them would be a musician’s career highlight\, but to have played support gigs for all of them you would have to be a musician of world class standard. Well\, let me just mention one name\, Shayn Wills. Between 1992 and 2006\, Shayn Wills played support for each and every one of these legendary innovative musicians. \n\n\n\nWatching Wills play it becomes glaringly obvious that he is something very special. For starters\, his ability to play harmonica\, guitar and sing at once is astounding and entertaining\, (“ …the way Shayn plays guitar harmonica and sings all at the same time astounds me” Midge Marsden). And he has his own unique style of playing. His playing comes from a place of sincerity and heartfelt passion\, and there is something about his playing that is distinctly New Zealand. DESCRIPTION:Named for an infamous Donald Trump quote reported on the day of their first official gig in early 2018\, (and for the rustic nature of the first venue they played) the Stable Geniuses comprise several Kapiti-based musicians brought together at the instigation of bass player and Audiosuite studio owner Ross McDermott. Audiosuite sits next to an all-but-abandoned barn at the Lindale Complex just North of Paraparaumu\, and McDermott saw an opportunity for a country-themed event to enliven the deserted barn. \nA team was assembled including local guitarist Andrew London and drummer Brent McFarlane\, and ‘guests’ including pianist Wayne Mason and harmonica player Neil Billington were recruited for a ‘Boogie in the Barnyard’ in January 2018. The event\, and subsequent repeats\, were sold out and the Stable Geniuses\, like many Trump quotes\, look like having a life of their own.

DESCRIPTION:Our first Blues Jam in the new year! Thursday 31 January at Jack Hackett’s Irish Pub at the crossroads of Dixon and Taranaki streets.\nThe jam night is a chance to bring your songs and play with the house band. Our aim is to promote live blues/roots music through performance\, education and marketing\, and to foster emerging talent. \nMake yourself known to the MC and he’ll fit you in with the other people who come along. We limit jammers to 15 minutes or 3 or 4 songs max. It starts at 8.30 pm but if you arrive early then that’ll give you time to speak to the MC before the music starts. \nWe welcome you to have a go on the floor\, or simply enjoy watching the music being created in the spontaneity and feeling of the moment! \n

DESCRIPTION:At Jack Hackett’s this Thursday we present the Fuimaono brand of sweet blues and powerful soul music. Band leader and bass player Elliot Fuimaono is a legend with Capital Blues. \nHopegene line up is: \nHope – vocals\nEugene – gat/vox\nJonathan – drums\nElliot – bass/vox\nAnd Jebidiah Lesa – keys\n\nElliot says\, “My daughter Hope and son Eugene are moving to Auckland for a year of studies\, so it’s my last chance to play a gig with them for quite a while. They are both so good to work with.” Hope and Eugene have grown up around the blues club through Elliot and his friends\, they have also completed the music course at Whitireia.\n\nJonathan\, will be on drums\, although his main focus at the moment is his little family. “He gave music away when his daughter was born and hadn’t played at all last year\, so I asked him to play this gig because his brother and sister-in-law were moving away for a while\, he sorted out a few important things\, baby bath time\,nap time\, feeding time\, and agreed to do this gig\, it’s gone well so far” says Elliot.  “I’m playing bass\, so I have a lot to learn!“\n\nJebidiah Lesa is a local young man from P-Town who is playing keyboards. “Eugene asked him to play with the band so it’ll be a fun night”.
